Ever since I started devouring Agatha Christie, I have been on a quest for a decent mystery novel. Rex Stout’s Champagne for One delivers in unexpected ways. It has a great storyline with compelling characters and several clever twists in the story. I found the way the murder was committed novel yet obvious (the latter only one Wolfe explains). If you are into first person narrative from a character as quirky, sassy and endearing as Archie and you love well-crafted tales, then I recommend Champagne for One.Product details

A thoroughly Archie, Nero, and Fergus (Cramer) tangle. The usual cast of Fritz, Theodore, Saul, Fred, and Orrie parade through, with Purley being the most observant, and much more.
I have read all the Nero Wolfe novels, and this is one of the best. It is Archie Goodwin at his best, which is saying something.
If you are already a Nero Wolfe fan and are considering Champagne for One, I promise you won't be disappointed; it's one of the best. If you have never read a Wolfe book, this is a good one to start on. All the Nero Wolfe books are extremely funny and intriguing. In Champagne for One, the fat genius dectective Nero Wolfe has to solve the case of a girl who's death looked like suicide, but wasn't.
For over 20 years, I have been collecting Nero Wolfe mysteries, and this was the one I couldn't find. I was delighted to have found it on ! It didn't disappoint - Wolfe, Archie, Fritz and Inspector Cramer were all there, in rare form, as usual. I read and reread my Nero Wolfe mysteries all the time. Rex Stout was a literary genius, using big words that I sometimes I have to look up, plot lines to keep anyone interested, and a large dose of humor. I would recomend this book, as well as any Nero Wolfe mystery by the incomperable Rex Stout.
I havn't found a Rex Stout Nero Wolf book yet that didn't like.
Rex Stout is superb, Nero Wolfe and Archie are the best. Always keeps you guessing till the end. Rex's writing makes you feel that you're in the
brownstone with Nero.
One of the best of Nero Wolfe. I also recommend Some Buried Caesar, one of more light-hearted books. I read Rex Stout nearly 20 years ago and have just started re-reading them. I am enjoying them more the second time around that i did the first. the plots and characters are ageless! I can still laugh at the unique interplay betwee Archie Goodwin and Nero Wolfe, still envy the freedom of Nero's lifestyle, and still admire the plots. One of the great things about Rex Stout, is that (unlike some mystery writers that I could name), he doesn't hold out clues or keep secrets that the hero discloses at the end. He gives you the clues (sometimes tossed out in the middle of a paragraph). And sometimes, just sometimes, the reader get the thrill of solving the mystery!
